First Nation Health Authority (FNHA) Health Facilities Condition + Code Assessments

In 2014, DNA’s professionals provided comprehensive condition assessments for various FNHA health facilities in sixteen communities throughout British Columbia.  The primary objectives for this assessment were to identify any deterioration in the building envelope, architectural and structural systems such that a long service life could be maintained and to carry out a seismic risk assessment evaluating the potential performance of the facilities in an earthquake.

Our professionals reviewed original design drawings and carried out visual site reviews at each facility to acquire information to complete the assessments.  For each of the building components assessed, we provided an estimation of their remaining service life; commentary on whether or not repair, replacement or renovation were required; and estimates of construction costs to carry out the recommendations.  FNHA used DNA’s cost estimate data to help with the near-term capital planning of their facilities.

In addition, to enhance the value of our assessment, we carried out a seismic assessment of the facilities using BC’s state-of-the-art Seismic Retrofit Guidelines to define a seismic risk for each building; we evaluated whether or not each facility was accessible for people with disabilities; our civil engineers looked at the drainage conditions on the site and assessed how surface water could impact the building; and we carried out a tsunami risk assessment for each site.

It’s in our DNA… Engagement. Respect. Expertise.
