DNA was instrumental in the creation of the Coquitlam City Centre Library (CCCL) consistent with the City’s vision of maintaining and enhancing public services and building sustainable and energy efficient facilities in this exciting and demonstrative adaptive reuse project. Working with the Mayor/Council, Facilities Planning & Construction, Coquitlam Library Board and various community stake holder groups, DNA transformed over 33,0000 square feet of underutilized Commercial Retail and Parking Space into a Major Civic Library and Community Gathering Space.

Design

Through technical expertise, smart planning, creative and flexible envisioning DNA helped merge civic, cultural and educational services with revenue generating commercial activities at the CCCL through value added market assessment studies to determine the feasibility of supportive and corollary programming. In doing so the CCCL branch library has seen a 30% usage increase since opening of the new facility.

To optimize operational functionality and end user convenience and extract the best possible project outcomes DNA leveraged expertise functional needs assessment and space planning, building code and fire safety analysis, building condition assessment and structural capacity analysis, energy efficiency analysis, and business case reporting, and finishes and fit out procurement.

The CCCL project now serves as a cornerstone and catalyst for change in the adjacent community transformation. DNA is proud to have played a major role in this exciting and transformative project.
