Hartley Bay Cultural Centre
In the fall of 2001, David Nairne + Associates Ltd. was hired to work with the Hartley Bay Village Council to plan and design a new cultural & elders centre. The cultural facility was critical to the Band and their community development projects and was also a cornerstone in the Village’s objective to develop a sustainable tourism economy on BC’s central coast.
Furthermore, the Nation expressed the need to create a place where their culture can be celebrated in a traditional way. The main components of this building would include a Feast Hall with open firepit, a Museum and a large room for Elder’s activities. The Village Council selected a very prominent and highly visible site on the waterfront connected to the Village’s main boardwalk network.
