Hupačasath Elders Housing

The Hupačasath housing policy explored alternatives to single family housing construction to develop more affordable housing options for community members. Alternatives included First Nation owned rental housing and a rent-to-own program. Phase 1 of housing implementation was completed in 2003 and consisted of one 4-unit townhouse and 2 detached Elders homes.

The design allows families and Elders to live together within the same complex while allowing each unit to feel like their own distinct house with separate entrance and porch. This second phase of housing helps to create a dramatic entrance to the Hupačasath Community.

All these houses are First Nation owned rental housing and have met a need for affordable rental housing in the community.
