Okanagan College
Trades Renewal and Expansion Project
The Okanagan College Trades Renewal and Expansion project comprises two components, the renovation of 4,180 m² of existing trade workshops and the construction of a 5,574 m² addition. The new addition creates a new public face of the college and imbues exemplary sustainable building practices to serve future generations in trades.
The building accommodates classrooms, group offices, labs, trades shops, a café and student social-study space for the broader campus.
Sustainable design features include Living Building Challenge Petal Certification including Net Zero Energy, LEED Platinum for the new addition, and LEED Gold for Existing Buildings Certification (LEED EB:O&M) for the renovation. The application of bioclimatic design principles reduced the need for conventional mechanical and electrical systems. Capturing solar energy provides a high level of energy self-sufficiency for this high energy-use trade facility.
This project was designed in association with DSAI Toronto.
