Seabird Island Community School

The Seabird Island Community School was designed to reflect the educational and cultural philosophy of the Band. The new school has four entries: a ceremonial “main door” entry on the east elevation, facing the cul-de-sac and existing school; an additional entry to the north, leading to the adjacent residential area; and a south entrance leading into the covered carving area. The west entrance, located at the midpoint of the building and axialy connected to the main entrance, functions as an outdoor room for teaching and informal gathering.

The school has an axial organization, with a major north- south circulation spine that is articulated with an  east- west entrance/cross axis at the midpoint. The entry and gathering area, located at the intersection of the two axes, is a naturally lit double height space. The main corridor is lit by a continuous clerestory.

It’s in our DNA… Engagement. Respect. Expertise.
