Snuneymuxw Health Centre

The new Snuneymuxw Health Centre will further Snuneymuxw First Nation’s ability to support their adults, elders, children and families by providing expanded health advocacy and preventative health services. The health centre will focus on children, mental health and addictions, primary health care, chronic illness prevention, communicable disease control, and environmental health and management.

The 775m² health facility will include a community health room, lobby and waiting area, cultural gallery, medical exam and treatment spaces, dental treatment room, pharmacy retail space, community kitchen, elder’s room, traditional healing and play therapy room, bathing room, lab, consultation talking room, health offices, and administration spaces. Landscape features include a community garden, forest talking circle, and covered community gathering table.

The project’s construction techniques and material assemblies are reflective of the natural world evoking the rich expression of the coastal beaches and forests in a delicate balance of light and transparency and warmth and texture.
