House of Learning

The 66,900 ft² Thompson Rivers University House of Learning is located adjacent to the University Common, the heart of the TRU campus. This 4-storey building was designed to showcase BC Wood Products and to LEED Gold Standards. Sustainable features include a Geothermal based HVAC System, a green roof and a living wall/bio filter in the building’s atrium.

In addition to the Library Learning Commons wing, the House of Learning includes a unique 1-storey assembly hall buried into the slope on the south side of the building. The hall has been designed to reflect the local Interior Salish pit house tradition.

This project was designed as a joint venture between DNA and DSAI Toronto.

“I have appreciated the planning and work of DNA to design and build TRU’s House of Learning. You understand the needs of students, faculty and staff for space and zones of activity. You listened to our user groups and committees. All while staying on budget and on time with this complex building.”
