Chawathil First Nation Territorial Land Use Plan

The Chawathil Land Use Plan serves as a reference for Chawathil to review potential resource development and other projects within their Territory. For this project, Chawathil partnered with DNA and the Stó:lō Nation to collect data, honour past members sharing their Traditional Knowledge, and to ensure all Chawathil member input was accurately incorporated into the Land Use Maps.

The Plan supports Chawathil to more formally assert their rights and community values, serving as a foundation for all policies, regulations, and decisions pertaining to land use and development on Chawathil territorial lands, including referrals.

Developing capacity among Chawathil members was a key component of this project. Throughout the process, Chawathil youth attended land use planning workshops, where they were introduced to GIS and provided a record of cultural sites and amenities.

It’s in our DNA… Engagement. Respect. Expertise.
