Metlakatla Land Use Plan (Reserves)

The Metlakatla Land Use Plan is an implementation tool of the Metlakatla Land Code (2016). The purpose of the Land Use Plan is to guide management of land use, development and protection of the 10 Reserves currently set aside by the Metlakatla Governing Council for the exclusive use and benefit of the Metlakatla First Nation.

Working closely with the Metlakatla Lands Advisory committee, staff and membership in Metlakatla, Prince Rupert, Prince George and Vancouver, DNA facilitated an interactive and integrated process which resulted in a Plan that is consistent with Metlakatla’s values, culture, traditions, geography and local realities. The Plan serves as a foundation for all policies, regulations, and decision pertaining to land use and development on the Reserve lands.

Driven by the First Nation’s priorities as well as the location, size, physical and cultural features of each Reserve, the Plan designates areas for protection, resource stewardship, economic development and community development. It also includes a development approvals process, recommendations for Plan implementation, and an amendment and 5-year review process.
