Northwest Territory Métis Nation Traditional Use Study
The focus of the Northwest Territory Métis Nation (NWTMN) Traditional Use Study was to gather existing information, traditional knowledge, and resources including interview transcripts, audio files and maps related to NWTMN’s members’ current and historic use within and around the Interim Measures Agreement (IMA) area and South Slave areas.
DNA has been integral to interviewing, and coordinating interviews of knowledge keepers and recording, and digitizing their shared information. Our planning team uses ESRI GIS mapping services to create maps and visual recordings of the data. This data is essential in protecting the areas that have been historically, and that are currently, significant harvesting and cultural areas.
